BARTLETT SPRINGS SCHOOL

(Picture unavailable)

On May 07, 1873 the Bartlett Springs School District was established, with school being held in one of the cabins belonging to the Bartlett Springs Company. A school was built at Bartlett Flat, the junction of Twin Valleys Road and Bartlett Springs Road. This is west of the the Bartlett Springs resort. There were many locust trees and the area was known as New Town or Tail Hold. There were a few cabins and teamsters stayed there. The Bartlett Springs School district extended all the way down to Clear Lake.

When the Bartlett Springs School opened there were 19 pupils, but the student population varied and the school opened and closed several times. In 1894 there were less than 5 pupils, so the Bartlett Springs district was attached to the Indian Valley School district.

In 1900 the Bartlett Springs School district was formed again. In some years 1/2 term was taught at Bartlett Springs, and 1/2 term at Twin Valleys School. In 1906 the district lapsed again, and then again was reformed. In 1909 the Bartlett Springs School district lapsed for the final time.
